Thank you for your post Jonathan. I have heard some of the theory expounded before (primarliy by Gordon Youd who had a very helpful Youd Uk website). My difficulty is that I find most of the UK Youds to be located in the Cheshire/Lancashire region and my descendants and I seem to have no such connection. Our roots take us to Devon where I believe the possibility exits that the Youde (Youd) surname is a corruption of Youdey, Udy (also French Huguenots apparently) or alternatively Yewde or Yewett (relatively popular in Devon and with apparently no connection to the Huguenots). Do you have any information on the connection to Devon or how the name spread inot the aforementioned regions ?
Any assistance you or any other posters could lend would be most appreciated.
