I am new and an amateur at both genealogy and the internet.
Looking for help in locating family origins, ancestors and sibling(s) for Burrell Janes(Jaynes) b. 1765 NC, m. Nancy League b. NC.They were on the 1810 census for SC.
I know his son Wm. "Bill" Jaynes (Janes) m. Catherine "Kitty" Davis d/o Eli Davis and they had 10 children.Kitty, a widow, had one by a previous husband.
Their eighth child was named DEMPSEY YOW JANES. He died around age five. The next son, was named Thomas Anderson YOW Jaynes.
In each case, the DEMPSEY YOW Janes and the Thomas Anderson YOW Janes, there was a brother-in-law with a name to match the first two units of each's name. Possibly a god-father?
So, if a Burrell Jaynes g'daughter married a Yow, does anyone in the Yow forum know where Burrell Jaynes came from?
I'm glad you had the name origin discussion. All this time, I have always thought it was an Americanized spelling of the English name "Yeo".Although that could come from the Anglo-Saxon and be the same as Jau?
I will be very happy if we can help each other in anyway. Thank You.
