Hello David - I was fiddling around with some genealogy research myself this evening and read about O.T. "Happy" Yowell. My great-grandfather was a prolific oil rig operator on Signal Hill during the same time period as O.T. His last name was Cain. (People called him "O.T." however...so this is a bit confusing to me). My family history is quite sketchy because my grandfather, the first motorcycle cop on Signal Hill by the way, died at age 52, when my father was only 11 or 12 years old. Much of the family belongings, money, etc. was given away to other family members that have since "faded away". My father was then raised by his oldest sister...who has now passed. It seemed to me like this part of my family history is VERY difficult to even understand from stories told from surviving relatives. (It's like we were gypsies or something...ha ha).
I have a few old family photos showing oil rigs shooting oil into the air and my great-grandfather standing alongside his old truck, standing with some other men (names unknown). I'm trying to find a photo of O.T. "Happy" Yowell, then some family history, to see if there is some avenue I can go down. Do you know anything at all of O.T. Yowell? I, of course, couldn't help but notice that Yowell is your last name. I hope to hear from you. Thanks, Janae Cain-Dirksen
