Many of the Cepedas or Zepedas in the new world are descended from Juan Sanchez of Toledo and Inez de Cepeda. The had three sons, Miguel Sanchez de Cepeda, Alonso Sanchez de Cepeda and Francisco Alvarez de Cepeda. Alonso Sanchez de Cepeda married Beatriz Davila Ahumada. They had nine children. Saint Teresa of Avila being the most famous. The other children were, Lorenzo, Pedro, Rodrigo, Antonio, Hernando, Jeronimo, Augustin, and Juana de Cepeda. They were conversos. Alonso sold silk fabric and was well to do. He had his daughter become a nun to protect them from the inquisition. When things heated up, the family came to the new world. some went to South America some to Mexico. Alonso Sanchez de Cepeda was in the Coronado Expedition. He was married three times. One of his children Juan Cepeda was also in the expedition. I believe Ambrosio Cepeda is a descendant of Alonso but have not been able to make the connection. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
