I finally visited Westminster, the county seat of Carroll County, Maryland. Please note that the western half of Carroll County, including the area around Uniontown MD, was part of Frederick County MD before 1837.So families found first in Frederick County then in Carroll County may not have moved - it was just the county borders that changed as another county was added.
Here are 1800s marriages recorded in Carroll County:
12 Jul 1856 * David Sigafoose and Ellen Fleegle 29 Oct 1862 * Deborah Segafoose and John S. Devilbiss 19 Nov 1864 * Anna Mary Segafoose and John T. Anders 11 May 1869 * Elizabeth Segafoose and George E. Franklin 12 Jan 1872 * John W. Segafoose and Mary E. Winter 14 Jul 1879 - Maud Segafoose and Oliver Hiteshue 19 Dec 1891 - Clara Segafoose and Charles P. Welk 17 Aug 1893 - Cora B. Segafoose and Charles S. Marker
The first 5 marriages should all be children of William and Anna (Stem) Segafoose.
William and Anna both died without wills.Though there is no will on record for either one, the adminstrators' details of their estates were handled and recorded 11 September 1876 for William and 27 January 1891 for Anna.
The courthouse was closed at the time, so this information was gathered in the nearby Carroll County Public Library in Westminster MD.This library data had been extracted from courthouse records but I was not able to compare them to the primary source records.I was told the marriages probably had no additional data, but likely the administrators' records do.
Note: These would be descendants of the Pensylvanian Ziegenfuss family which first came to America in the 1730s from the area of Raidelbach in Starkenburg, Hesses Germany.
