Sorry it is the Virginia Militia that Jacob and Conrad were in, the battles were mostly in the Carolinas.
Conrad advised that their Hessian unit was stationed around New York from their arrival in 1776, for about 3 years. Historical texts as well as Conrad advise that some Hessian units were sent down to Virginia for a raid on or about May of 1779. It was here that Jacob and Conrad were captured and by 1780 are enlisted in the Virginia Militia under General Stevens.
My brother Karl and I went down to South Carolina in 1993 and walked the battlefield of the Cowpens. While there we saw some new military recruits observing a recreation of the battle by personnel dressed in Revolutionary War uniforms.
When we advised the personnel that our ancestor had fought there for the United States, they fired the cannon three times in his honor. There is a book sold there with the names of all of the soldiers who took part in the battle. Jacob Zike is mentioned in the book however as is sometimes the case, the author who transcribed the names from original documents thought that the letter Z in Zike was the letter S and subsequently listed Jacob Zike as Jacob Sike. This misspelling sometimes appears in other documents that we saw.
