Hi:
I saw your post in genealogy.com about the wanted to reply.
My great, great-grandmother, Susannah Zimmerman was born June 18, 1830, in Wattenwil, Canton of Berne, Switzerland.
In 1847, Susannah and her brother, John, left for the United States, landing in New York and settling temporarily for 2 years in Coshocton, Ohio, before moving on--presumably to Kansas.
For whatever reason though, they returned and settled in Amazonia, Missouri.Susannah married Christian Columbus Schenk (now spelled Schank). She had two other brothers and a sister who also came from Wattenwil. I don’t know their names right now. However, three of her brothers (including John) are buried in the St. John cemetery in Amazonia--as is Susannah (under the name Schank).
I was wondering if you had any further information that would be helpful to me.
I'm looking to find out any information that I can, and especially who Susannah and John Zimmerman's parents were.
You might be interested to know that one of Susannah Zimmerman Schank's granddaughters, Iva Schank, married a Moser (John "Jack" Moser) who was a one time Sheriff of Holt County, Missouri. They resided in Oregon, Missouri.
And a Steeby family (Clifford Steeby) live directly south (a couple of miles) of the Schank family farm in Holt County, Missouri.
Thanks.
