Donald: Have read some of your posts from last several years with great intrest & so greatly respect your work. Noted Donald Zinnfell off a few years back also so assume he is no longer with us. I would greatly appreciate any info you may have available as in 1st note. My reg email is email@example.com & trying to fill in my holes in family knowledge. Zinn Family has a lot of Georges... Solida (originally apparently Sallada)had a lot of Johns (as I understand it all 5 original brothers were Johns.) As I suspect you know this was apparently practice of the day. St John was the Patron Saint of the Sallada clan who were French Hugonauts so first name of most male children was John & middle name was what they went by for the most part. This could explain the George Zinns if the research takes you back to the Ce'zane French clan, which may well have been Hugonauts as well. (I have not got back that far yet but it is a suspicion if the French roots of the German family prove out. If they were religious persecution forced the Sallada's to move in mid to late 1500's to Germany & Switzerland. Suspect the Ce'zane's had a very similar story. Anyway mid 1700's found the Sallada brothers deciding to relocate to America for same reasons. I find many parallels & cross overs in the families stories in area lived in& other so would not be to surprised to find families crossed paths before. LOL Let me Know If I can help you as well. I live in Marietta, Georgia very near Kennesaw Mt. Where my G-Grandfather William Young fought. I am also trying to follow the Michael Saylor Zinn story & note that many have placed his death in Pearsville, Virginia & have him burried in Sumter County unknown state. I figure the Pearsville date to be a capture date as my research shows him dying at Camp Sumter (Andersonville) Ga a month or so short of wars end. research shows him buried there as well but either as a unknown or under another name. The keeper of the book of the dead listed them by any name given him so could be a unknown, or a Michael Saylor, Saylor Zinn, or many of the possible spellings & variants of the name. am trying to narrow down the lists to do some headstone shots of possibilities on a future visit there as last time did not have enough time or knowledge to find him or the possibilities. Let me know or email if you like.
