MR. and MRS. H.C. WATSON, of Decatur, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their residence, March l2th. Only immediate relatives were present.
On March l2, l873, at the home of the bride's parents, COL. and MRS. H.W. PECK, Decatur, Iowa, Rev. W.S. Hooker, Pastor of the M.E. Church, united in marriage, MISS EVELYN PECK and H.C. WATSON. MR. WATSON came to Decatur from New Virginia, Warren County, in l87l, and COL. PECK and family came to Decatur from Indianola, Iowa, in l876. MR. and MRS. WATSON have lived almost continuously at Decatur during the fifty years of their wedded life. The color scheme of the dining room was gold and white, appropriate for the occasion. After an elegant dinner, the afternoon was spent in reading letters of congratulation received from relatives and friends at a distance and reminiscenses of fifty years ago.
MR. WATSON's parents observed their golden wedding anniversary in Decatur and MR. WATSON attended the golden wedding of his sister, MRS. R.E. EASTWOOD, at their residence at Nevada, Mo., in l902. At this occasion one of the relics was a basket MR. WATSON's mother, with other school children, carried in Washington D.C. which was filled with roses and strewn in the path for Gen. Lafayette when he revisited America in l824.
MR. and MRS. WATSON's daughters are MRS. E.M. ZOOK, of Fontanelle, Iowa; and MRS. CLARK FIERCE, of Van Wert, Iowa. A remarkable coincident is that the son-in-law's parents have each recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries. MR. CLARK FIERCE's parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, January l5, l9l8, at their residence in Van Wert, Iowa. MR. ZOOK's parents, of Adair, Iowa, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary at their home farm near Fontanelle, Iowa, July 2, l92l. At these anniversaries their children and families were present.
Among the flowers and other presents, MR. and MRS. WATSON's daughters and husbands presented them with $50 in gold.
"The fifty golden years they've lived,
With true hearts in attune,
Have brought them to this golden day,
Their Golden Honeymoon."
MR. and MRS. WATSON wish to thank all their friends for their kind congratulatory greetings.
