Notes for Augustin Roy-Desjardins:
Memoires de la societe Genealogique, January, 1956, by Georges Desjardins, SJ.
Augusti Roy was one of the first to use the nickname, Lauzon, which became Lauzier. The marraige of Augustin and Jeanne reveals to us an embarrassing story, which we do not have the right to hide."The year of our Lord 1725 and the 22 October, by dispensation of Monseigneur Levesque of the publication of bans of marraige, I, undersigned priest, pastor of the parish of St Famille de Boucherville, has recieved the consentment of marraige by word of presence of Augustin Roy-Desjardins aged at about 24 years, son of Pierre Roy-Desjardins and of Marianne Martin with Madamoiselle Jeanne Boucher DeMontbrun, daughter of Jean Boucher DeMontbrun and Claire Francoise Charet, who have acknowledged for their child, natural and legitimate, a child of about two years old and baptized by Mr de LaFaye in the parish of Contrecoeur, in the presence of Brother Antoine, schoolmaster, undersigned with me, Louis Cadoneau, Louis Roy dit Desjardins, brother of Augustin Roy, of Pierre Veronneau who declared not being able to sign."The dispensation of the customary three marraige bans means that the Bouchers of Boucherville wanted the least amount of publicity concerning this marraige. . . an obligated marraige maybe, . . . of this improper alliance of one theirs who had been faulted. Also, noted, not one of the family of Jeanne is present, or did not want to be mentioned.
Decidedly, the Bouchers, humiliated by the adventure of Jeanne (a spot on the coat of arms recieved from Louis XlV), took the measures to hide her tracks. But the dear pastors who got into the game were not made of the same wood and registered the "son of Jeanne and an unknown father" at Contrecoeur rather than at Boucherville.
We could ask ourselves how Augustin, a young man from Kamouraska, a simple citizen, son of a farmer, could have met and known (in the biblical sense) his future legitimate spouse, a girl of far away Boucherville and daughter of nobles. Maybe at Levis, where Jeanne spent some time with her Mother's relatives, Charest and Bissot. Her Father, with the title of Commanding Colonel (1715-1729) of all the militia from the lower St Lawrence. The militians of Kamouraska could well have designated Augustin to represent their captain. The militia already interested him, without a doubt, because he became for thirty eight years Captain de la Cote at St Anne de la Pocatiere.
