|This home page is dedicated to the family lineage of Ron Allen whose ancestors came predominately from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Some surnames related to this branch of the Allen family are: Bassett, Aldrich, French, Gaskill, Cook, Cosgrove, and West. The earliest traceable ancestor was John Allin, a weaver from Marblehead, MA whose son was Abraham Allin, a fisherman born Dec. 15, 1689 in Marblehead.Abraham married Ruth Bassett, (b. Mar. 16, 1688/89 Lynn, MA the daughter of William Bassett Jr. and Sarah Hood) Jan. 6, 1712/13 in Lynn, MA. and moved to Mendon, MA around 1719. Theyhad a son Joseph Allin (b. June 15, 1719 in Mendon, MA; d. Mar. 21, 1802) who married Lydia Aldrich (b. Oct. 28, 1721 in Mendon, MA the daughter of Moses Aldrich and Hannah White) in Mendon on Mar. 1, 1742/43.The records show that both Joseph Allin and Lydia Aldrich were Quakers, as were other members of the Allen family. |
One major goal of my research is to learn more about John Allin of Marblehead: Who were his parents, when was he born, andwhen and who did he marry? I’d like to trace this line of Allens back to the Allen families of England.
Another goal is to find more information on other branches of the family including:
1) The Cook (Cooke) family of Rhode Island, specifically the ancestors of Waty Whipple Cook (b Jan. 20, 1833, d. Aug 1919) who married on May 9, 1852 George Fox Allen (b. Jan. 7, 1828 in Mendon; d. Sept. 23, 1914)
2) The Cosgrove family of Prince Edward Island, Canada, specifically ancestors of Mary Ellen Cosgrove (b. 1873 in P.E.I., the daughter of Edward and Sophia Cosgrove) who married Robert Lee Allen Sept. 7, 1898 in Providence, RI.
3) The West family of Rhode Island, specifically ancestors of Alice Louise Marian West (b. Oct. 13, 1896 in East Greenwich, RI the daughter of George West Jr. (b. 1875 in Pawtucket, RI) and Alice Hayden; d Jan. 26, 1982) who married Alvin Jason Allen Nov. 18, 1922 in Stonington, Conn.
