George Michael Copenhaver (d. July 27, 1814)

Their marriage date is recorded as June 9, 1793 (date of bond). The
marriage bond clearly names "Reginy Balthis" then is followed by this
hand-written note: "This is to Certifie that its with my freewill and
Consent that a license be issued out of your office for the Solomnization
of marriage between George Copenhaver and myself being of full age." It
was then signed "Regeny Loldes" in her hand-writing and one witness was
John Loldes. No ready explanation for these distinct spellings comes to
mind.
In a deed in 1801 (see above) he was called a hatter. In Deed book
R-212, December11, 1809, is a deed by Geo. Copenhaver and Regenea of
Strasburg to Joseph Stover. George Copenhaver served as a private in the
War of 1812 in Capt. Jophn McClung's Co, of Infantry, 4 regt. (Boyd's)
Virginia Militia, from April 24, 1814 (or August 17, 1814), discharged at
Hampton, Virginia 320 miles from home. On July 27, 1814 the Company
Muster Roll reported him sick in quarters.
George Copenhaver died in 1814 at Strasburg. The appraisal of his
personal estate was made December 16, 1816 (Will Book K, page 248) and
recorded May 13, 1817. A Memorandum of articles sold, dated December 14,
1816, included various items to Regina Copenhaver. It was recorded also
on May 13, 1817.
