Notes for Alexander Truscott:
Alexander was a brother of Lewis. I will not follow this line in oreder to stay within my chosen path of Truscotts to our generation. But I could not pass the comments attached to Alexander's name. It is a report from the West Briton newspaper 30 November 1810.
" .... whereas I, Alexander Truscott, of the parish of St Stephen in Brannel, in the county of Cornwall, yoeman have, in conjunction of my son William Truscott, unlawfully cut down certain timber trees on a farm called Down Derry in the said parish of St Stephen, the property of the Right Honorable William Wyndham Lord Grenville and Lady Ann Grenville for which they have justly commenced a prosecution against me, and which prosecution has been staid at my earnest solicitation, on my paying costs incedent thereto, making this public acknowledgment as a warning to others not to be guilty of a similar offence: Now I do hereby most sincerely acknowledge my sorrow for having committed the said offence and my thankfulness for the lenity which has been shewn me. Witness my hand this day of December, 1810. Alexander Truscott.
This gives some idea of who and what the social order was at that time.
Alexander's will: His wife Mary inherits part of Downderry which is in the possession of John Colum during Mary's life. His daughter Mary Smith "... must pay out to my late son Alexander's children William, Alexander, Richard, John and Mary. He names grandaughters Mary and Ann Hall.
The parish register states he was 84 when he died. His son Alexander died two years earlier.
