|I am researching the ancestors of Archibald McNeil, who lived in Milford, Branford and New Haven, CT, and his father, Charles McNeil of Ballycastle, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The family was originally from Scotland, but emigrated to Northern Ireland for at least one generation before coming to America.Charles had a close relative named Archibald McNeil (probably his brother, but possibly a first cousin), presumed to have lived in Ballycastle. They and their spouses died in a ship wreck at Sable Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia, in July of 1737.It is not known if they had ever been to America on a previous voyage. All family records were lost in the ship wreck.|
My direct line is through Samuel McNeil, fifth son of Archibald McNeil and Mary Russell.I have documented most of those ancestors, at least as far as birth and death dates.I have also documented, through a cousin, most of the ancestors of Archibald and Mary's first son, also named Archibald McNeil.I need information on their middle son John, b. in 1745, on whom little is known except that "he moved to Amenia Precinct, in Dutchess County, NY."He is listed as living there in 1778, at least.
It is presumed that "my" Archibald, of Branford, is a first cousin to another McNeil line, that of Archibald, Alexander and Adam McNeil, the only surviving sons of Archibald of Ballycastle, who also died in the ship wreck as noted above.Archibald McNeil of Litchfield, as well as his wife, Sarah Johnson McNeil, were on that same ship, but they survived.Their son, William, a two year old, drowned.
Anyone with information to share, or who needs information on this family, please e-mail me.I am especially interested in the parentage of Charles and Archibald of Ballycastle, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
PLEASE NOTE: IN THE REPORTS BELOW, CHARLES MCNEIL IS THE FATHER OF ARCHIBALD OF BRANFORD WHO MARRIED MARY RUSSELL.ANYONE RESEARCHING ARCHIBALD OF BRANFORD, LOOK IN THIS FILE.
ANYONE WHO WANTS INFORMATION ON ARCHIBALD MCNEIL OF LITCHFIELD, CT, THE PRESUMED FIRST COUSIN OF ARCHIBALD OF BRANFORD, PLEASE E-MAIL ME FOR INFORMATION.
I am also researching these surnames: Beebe, Seeley, Dix, Hartley, Morris, Colton, Larrabee, Carter, Orton, Blansit, in all its variant spellings, and Downey.
