1965 BEENY ANNIVERSARY OBSERVANCE SUNDAY
Despite an inch or so snow which covered the ground and bitter cold which accompanied the snow, close to one hundred friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Beeny, Manitou Route 1, attended an open house Sunday afternoon in honor of their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
The affair was held in the social hall of Salem Primitive Baptist Church on Laffoon Trail, with the couple's four children and their families, as host. The children included two daughters Mrs. Hiram, (Mary) Bassett Jr.,Mrs, A. O. (Ann) Brown, and two sons Harvey and James D. Beeny, all of Madisonville.
Mrs. Freeland Harris, Jr., of Princeton, a grand daughter baked the huge three-tiered cake which was iced in white and topped with a wedding bell tied with gold ribbons from which spilled an arrangement of stephanotis. The same flowers decorated the base of the cake, and gold dollies and ruffled gold net ribbon surrounded the base.
Gold leaves accented the white roses on the cake, which was served with mints and nuts, by Mrs. Harris. Mrs. James D. Beeny presided at the punch bowl which was placed on one end of the lace-over-gold-covered table, with cake on the opposite end. White candles in triple gold candelabra with bronze baby mum flowers at the base, accented the table.
Mrs. Harvey Beeny registered the guest in a gold guest book which was placed on a lace-over-gold-covered table on which was a lovely arrangement of yellow roses and snapdragons, the gift of Mrs. R. J. Qualls and Mrs. Hershel Wilson. Mrs. Qualls also assisted with the serving.
Mrs. Beeny was presented a lovely gold-flecked corsage while Mr. Beeny wore a matching boutonniere, the gifts of their children, who also gave their parents a recliner chair for their golden anniversary.
The two granddaughters, Misses Kaye Beeny and Beverly Bassett kept the attractive money tree which was in a gold container and which had birds nest in it,in addition to gifts of money from many friends of the couple. Mr and Mrs. Beeny received a host of lovely gifts and several flower arrangements during the afternoon, along with good wishes of guests.
