84.JacobBARRETT, born 01 Apr 1730 in Chester Co, PA; died 28 Feb 1802.He was the son of 168. ArthurBARRETT and 169. LydiaCHAMBERS. Notes for Jacob BARRETT: Notes from Bruce Barrett: Jacob Barrett was youngest of the nine sons of Arthur Barrett. Jacob moved 19 March 1739 with his family to the Quaker community in Frederick County, Virginia, Hopewell MM. In 1745 he was mentioned in the will of his father Arthur. Again, in 1763, he was mentioned in the will of his brother John. In 1767 an abstract of the Hopewell Minutes records that Jacob was disowned. He later moved (about 1772/3), along with other families from Hopewell MM, to Bush River MM in Newberry County, SC. Jacob petitioned to be granted 100 acres in SC in February of 1773 and a tract of 100 acres in Newberry County was surveyed for him the following month, but he does not seem to have taken possession of the land. Instead the land was eventually granted, some 11 years later, to Reason Reagan. (However a plat in 1778 records this same adjacent property as belonging to Jacob Barrett.) Jacob's children were granted a certificate from Hopewell to Bush River 7 Nov 1774 and they were received at Bush River 24 Feb 1776. It is not completely clear from that record that Jacob himself actually remained in SC. The certificate, as recorded both at Hopewell and at Bush River, is for the children of Jacob Barrett. Jacob was disowned by the Hopewell MM in 1767 and Bruce comments that he has not found any record of his reinstatement. However, since he was still alive until at least 1773, Bruce remarks that it does not seem that his children would have been received at Bush River unless Jacob were already a member, present, and in good standing. However, it may be the case that having been disowned in 1767, Jacob continued attending Meetings for Worship, but without the privileges of membership. There is one further mention of Jacob Barrett, as witness (along with James Barrett) to a land transaction in 1788, but it seems more likely that this is Jacob, Jr. 1 Birth: 1 APR 1730 in Chester County, Pennsylvania 1 Death: 28 FEB 1802 Note: This death date is from the Family Bible of James Barrett. At this time there is no conclusive proof that it refers to this Jacob, speculative father of James. The entry: Jacob Barrett Sr. died February the 28th, 1802.
