Isaac Hamblin (son of Benjamin Hamblin and Anne Mayo) was born 1728 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, and died 1762 in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Mass.He married Sarah Shaw on January 23, 1746/47 in Abington, Plymouth, Mass., daughter of Nicholas Shaw and Lydia Nuson. Notes for Isaac Hamblin: Cutter says Sarah (Hamlin) Stearns was an aunt of Hannibal Hamlin (1809-1891), who was Vice President of the United States during Lincoln's first administration. This is impossible, but the mistake could indicate that she might have been closely related to him. If so,a likely connection might be that her father was the Isaac Hamlin born at Bridgewater, Massachusetts, in 1728, son of Benjamin and Anne (Mayo) Hamlin, who were Hannibal Hamlin's great grandparents. That Isaac was the Vice President's great uncle and if he were Sarah (Hamlin) Stearns' father, she would have been Hannibal Hamlin's first cousin once removed.Having been forty-eight years older than he, she could have seemed more of an aunt than a cousin. We know that Sarah (Hamlin) Stearns was born in Bridgewater, that her parents, Isaac Hamlin and Sarah Shaw, were married in Abington, the adjoining town to the north, and that they resided for some time in Bridgewater. It is likely that this Isaac was from Bridgewater before the marriage, and perhaps he was born there. If Isaac, Vice President Hamlin's great uncle was indeed Sarah (Hamlin) Stearns' father, she had among her ancestors Reverend John Mayo of Boston, Governor Thomas Prence of Plymouth Colony, and Mayflower passengers William and Mary (Wentworth) Brewster and Stephen Hopkins and his son Giles. Immigrant ancestor of the Hamlin family in America was James Hamlin who was made freeman at Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, on 1 March 1641/2.He was listed as able to bear arms there in 1643 and was a town officer. He brought his wife, Anne, and children to Barnstable in 1639, having come previously to build a home for them.He was from the parish of St. Lawrence, Reading, Berkshire, England, where several of his children were baptized. James Hamlin was the son of Giles Hamlin, who with his wife, a daughter of Robert Ashley, lived in Devon.Giles had another son, Thomas, a gentleman of London, 1623.Giles was the son and heir of John Hamelyn, of Cornwall, living in 1570, who married Armor, daughter of Robert Knowle, of Sarum.
