Notes for Jesse Franklin. Bray:
Obituaryfrom the Houston Herald, Texas Co, Missouri 5 November 1903.
"Jesse Bray, born July 2, 1840, died October 31, 1903.Mr. Bray was born in the state of North Carolina; he was married to Nancy Henson in 1866, in Randolph County, North Carolina. He then moved to Texas County, Missouri. From this union were born five children, to-wit:Sarah Kabler, Lemmie Bray, Ellen Bray, Minnie Dodson, and Ida Hart. The children are all alive except the second one, whichdied December 9, 1880.Brother Bray joined the Baptist ChurchAugust 6, 1883, and lived a consistent Christian lifeever since he professed a hope in Christ. He served as churchclerk at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church for a number of years, but after he began to realize the decline in his health, he tendered his resignation at the church, which was accepted, and the thanks of the churchwere tendered him for his faithful and efficient performance of his duties. In his death we realize the loss of akind and loving husband, a kind father, a good neighbor, and a constant attendant at church. He was attacked by the dreaded disease of cancer, and was treated by doctors of Kansas City, Springfield, and Fort Wayne, Indiana, and also by the home doctor, but to no avail. The grim monster continued to prey upon the vitality of his life for almost three years, and during that time he suffered untold agony, until relieved by death. He remained conscious until the last, and just a few minutes before his death, he called his wife and children, and the friends that were present at his bedside. He shook hands with them and bid them goodbye. He leaves his wife, four children, three brothers, four sisters, eleven grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn their loss, but their loss is his eternal gain. But they can truely say with the Psalmist David, "We cannot bring him back, but we can go to him, there parting will be no more."Funeral services were conducted by the Reverand W. H. Neal, using Revelation 14:13 for his textshowing the happy state of the saints of God, and the necessity of making preparations to meet God in peace.A friend."
