Ambrose Brennan (b. 10 Dec 1905, d. 13 Dec 1977)
Notes for Ambrose Brennan:
Ambrose was a farmer for most of his life and his partner was his brother, Edward which lasted for twenty five years plus.Ambrose sold out to Edward in the 1960's as he 'retired'.Ambrose and Edward purchased all sorts of landin order to farm starting in the 1930's.Pieces of land include the following:
1. Mecox Road where the main farm workshop was located and there was land to the west of the site and across the street to the southwest.
2. Land tract in the back of the Mecox cemetery which is still owned by the Brennan family as of this writing (2008)
3. Ocean Road to the south of the old Brennan homestead (sold c. 2004) referred to as Highland Terrace. This 16 acre tract was sold for 12 million in 2005.
4. Ocean Road beach property sold in the late 1950's and was own in joined ownership with the McNamara family. It was sold (I believe) so pay off debt.
5. Hanney Property off Montauk Highway in Sagaponack.88 acres owned by Edward, Ambrose, Frank, and John Brennan.Over the years, a quarter of it at a time was sold to Clifford Foster, a farmer in Sagaponack and the last 22 acres was sold by Edward Brennan's hiers, Edward, Jr and Patricia Brennan in 2005 for 3.4 million (155,000 per acre). The first quarter wqas sold by John in the late 80'sor 90's as was that of Ambrose; followed by Frank in the 1990's.Edward's wife, wife held out and would not sell as she thought the price would get better and she did not need to sell. She was right.
6. Mecox Road, Sam's Creek property where the housing project called Ambleside was developed in the 1990's.
7. West Mecox-Sold in the 1970's in parcels. Richard, son of Ambroise kept his parcels and he gave them to his children of which now (2008) there are four homes on the site which includes Richard's home (now deceases). His daughter, Dawn Hagen competed a home in 2006; Richard Paul, Junior completed a home in 2007 and Dan has the first home of his parents.
At the prime of their farming, Edward and Ambrose had about 200 acres of prime farm land most of which they purchased in the 1930's and 1940's.They were to be land rich or should one say land poor as farmers but the payoff came when it was sold in the latter part of the century and in the early part of the 21st century at very high prices giving their members a very nice quality of life.
