The earliest known Bush surname Ancestor of this family is William Bush who arrived in Maryland from England in 1671 on the William and Mary which sailed from London. His great grandson Andrew Bush was born in 1762 and moved from Caroline County, Maryland to Warren County, Georgia in the early 1790s and died in Monroe (now Lamar) County, Georgia in 1839. Several of his sons moved to central Georgia in the early 1800s. In the early 1920s descendant Emanuel Clifton Bush and wife Alice Barber Bush moved their family from southwest Georgia to central Florida where their son William Baker Bush and Lois Collins were married in 1933 in Lakeland, Florida.

Then, before 1880 they moved to Hillsborough Co., Florida where their son James Wells Collins was born in 1887. James Wells Collins and Sarah Elizabeth Parker, parents of Lois Collins Bush, were married in 1910 in Taylor Co., Florida.

Odom who served in Company D of the 5th Florida Infantry and fought in the Battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, was wounded during the Petersburg Campaign, and was at Appomattox when General Robert E. Lee surrendered.
