|I have been researching the family of Christian Carl Dall, who appears to have emigrated from Germany in the late 1860's. He married Louise Woldt within a year or two and settled in New York City where two children were born.|
Before the next of five additional children were born, Christian and Louise moved to Saginaw, Michigan. We believe the area reminded them of their native Prussia (which both listed as "birthplace" on the 1880 census). My great-grandfather, Charles Augustus Frederik Dall was born September 17, 1877, eighty years and four days before me. He died just three months before I was born, but was a very successful businessman in the West Side Business District area. Being in the shoe business, his oldest son, Harold(my grandfather), became a podiatrist and his younger son, Charles, eventually took that business over, Dall's Shoe Store on Court Street.
Now, in the new millenium, there are only a few Dalls of the next generation remaining. There are my two uncles and Charles' son Fred. Cousin Fred has a son, and my brother and I each have a son. With one additional cousin in Missouri, we are now the last, and it is up to these three sons to carry on the family name. I have not had as much time in the past few years to research as I did the prior several years, and there were a few leads, so maybe there are actually a few more Dalls out there than I know about!
