Notes for Sarah Catherine Murray:
So nice to meet you.
I am not an Eddy descendant, however,I am a Murray descendant = so I can
help you with the Murray family. Your Sarah Catherine Murray married Isaac
N. Eddy. This Sarah was the daughter of our Absalom Murray and Mary
Taylor.Absalom Murray was the s/o our Thomas Murray Jr. and Rachel. It
is believed that Rachel was part Indian... but no proof to date. All
Murray descendants of this union say that there was Indian 'blood' in the
family. We currently theorize that Rachel's maiden name was Davis and list
her as such in our databases. There are several theories regarding her
Back to your Sarah Catherine (Murray) Eddy...she was the sister of my
Caswell Lewis Murray.Caswell and a couple of his siblings continued on
from OR and settled in Siskiyou CO CA = on the OR / CA border.Your Sarah
Catherine stayed in OR,as did several of the other siblings.Absalom and
his family, along with some ofhis siblings, crossed the Plains in/abt
1853 They left from Cole CO MO, by wagon train, and settled in Lane CO OR.
Absalom's father, Thomas Jr., died in Cole CO, MO.
I have a huge Murray file for you.You may get lost in it all.Attached
is a descendants outline --cheat sheet-- for 'Old' Thomas Murray of WA CO,
TN(6 generations PDF format).'Old' Thomas(as we refer to him) was
the father of our Thomas Jr.This 'Old' Thomas died in 1805 WA CO, TN.
His wife is unknown, though we do have some theories regarding her
identity. The descendants of our Absalom begin on Pg18 and your Sarah
Catherine is listed on Pg19.
You may be interested in our website dedicated to the research of our 'Old'
Thomas. It is by invitation only.Let me know if you would like an
invitation, and send me a list of those that might also be interested.
There are several Murray families that lived in Washington CO during the
late 1700's,so we have included these lines on our site. Our thought is
that some of them may be related to our 'Old' Thomas. There are tons of
documents posted on our website for the various descending lines, & there
are several researching the descending lines of our Thomas Jr.,but I am
the only one that is researching the descendants of our Absalom.Yes,
Ken is also, but he is not active on our site.Fact is, there are not
too many researchers of Absalom's descendants,so it was quite interesting
to get Ken's message.
Take a look at the attached report.I suggest that you highlight your
direct line as there are quite a few names (=21 pages worth ).I will try
to put together a Descendant's Report for you which is much longer and
contains notes for many of the individuals listed in the Outline Tree.I
will try to send you one for Absalom right away.Do keep in mind that my
notes are just that... my notes, some are more organized than others. Since
I began my research with the Murray family, these notes are not as
organized = I have learned from experience. The notes section of my program
is where I put my thoughts and list some of the documentation that I have
collected. It contain all sorts of data and documentation, but it also
contains questions and theories. My file is always a work in progress and I
am sure that there are errors contained. Please understand the
documentation records for what they are,and please do not assume that the
questions or theories imply fact.In the past I have shared my notes with
others and then see those same notes listed on the net (or returned back to
me) listed as fact. This can cause all sorts of confusion for other
researchers and the last thing I want to do is to send one of them off in
the wrong direction. On the other hand,I do want to share my work, and
hope that others will enjoy it.Also,I ask that you always use my name
as a source when quoting my work. Many, many hours have gone into this
research.I really would appreciate my name listed so that others (later
on) can contact me directly = many times one of our puzzles can be solved
by that little piece of the puzzle that someone else might have.I figure
this history belongs to us all, so we might as well work together and share
our heritage. Also, many others have already contributed to our Murray
research. You will see their names and email addresses listed in the
Descendant Reports. You may want to contact these folks directly. Please
feel free to do so.Many have participated on our Murray website.
If you are interested in seeing a photo of my Caswell Lewis Murray and his
This is my personal family photo and you may reproduce it for your family
book if you would like.I would like to use the photos that your son has
posted online for the family of Sarah Catherine (Murray) Eddy = the sister
of my Caswell Lews Murray.Would you ask your son if I may have permission
to use these in my file? They are great photos!Your mother Louise was a
beautiful woman. She looks like a movie star. When I first brought up
these photos, I saw her image, and Micheller Pfiefer came to mind right
By the way, since Absalom was our common ancestor, Caswell Lewis my
gg.grandfather,Sarah Catherine your gg.grandmother, then we are of the
same generation, though I am closer to the age of your children. You and I
would be third cousins, and your children would be the a third cousins
once removed to me(I have a chart that lists these connections that I use
as my 'cheat sheet':-).
I wish I could share more information on the Eddy family with you.
Perhaps, time permitting,I can do some digging in their records.I am
sure that Ken might be able to add some more information to your file.
You all have a great reunion!
