|Current family research is divided into two sections and two divisions in each section: Section 1) DeChaine surname family 1a)DeChaine, 1b) Logan; Section 2) LaBarge surname family 2a)LaBarge, 2b)Brown.|
DeCHAINE: The current DeChaine surname ancestry began in the Fribourg Canton of Switzerland. Earliest patriarch is Pierre MIVILLE dit LeSuisse, circa 1602 AD. Pierre migrated to France, wed and then the family immigrated to Canada about 1648 AD. The second son, Jacques MIVILLE added "dit Deschenes" to his name upon his marriage to Marie Catherine de BAILLON in 1669. In 1869 a 5th generation grandson, Pierre MIVILLE and his brother immigrated to the United States with their families. In the early census the name was phonetically anglicized to DeChaine and variations of that name. Therefore the family name has progress from MIVILLE dit LeSuisse to dit DESCHENES and to dit DeCHAINE. My branch of Pierre MIVILLE dit DESCHENSE dit DeCHAINE's family is the descendents of the eldest son, Walden Pierre Daniel MIVILLE dit DESCHENES dit DeCHAINE (born 1858 in Canada) through his first born son, Daniel Robert DeCHAINE (born in Modesto, CA in 1903) to ME, as second son, John David DeCHAINE (born in Paso Robles, CA in 1937).
LOGAN: This is the maternal side of the parental linage for John David DeChaine. Earliest identification of this family name is traced to Thomas LOGAN born in Scotland in the late 18th Century. He imigrated to the USA in the early 1800's. The family purportedly settled in Virginia and early on migrated to the Nashville, Tennessee area. A later son, William Lytle LOGAN (born about 1821) married and had children in the Lousiana and Illinois areas. He "apparently" abandoned that family and migrated with his sister Idella and her husband to California about 1852. He later migrated to Oregon about 1858, self employed as a "packer" of supplies to the gold fields in the Idaho Territory. About 1862 he married a Nancy Jane SHEMANDINE HARRIS from Minnesota-Iowa area immigrating by wagon train to the Oregon and Northwest Territories. His second son John Thomas LOGAN (born 1865 in the Idaho Territory) had three daughters. The youngest Myrtle Elizabeth LOGAN (born 1904 in Dell (Brogan), Oregon)wed Daniel Robert DeCHAINE.
