Notes for THOMAS JARVIS:
Originally from Virginia, Thomas Jarvis served in political positions in two different colonies. In 1682 he was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses.
Later, he moved his family to the North Carolina Colony at Albemarle, which was then nearly total wilderness. Thomas was a member of the first Assembly of North Carolina at Hall's Creek. With a total population of only some sixty or seventy families in the colony, Thomas was appointed Deputy Governor under Governor Phillip Ludwell in 1687. He served in this capacity until his death in 1694.
The government during this period was orderly and well administered. Thomas Jarvis' natural ability is credited for this smooth operation.
