MN OBITUARY - OLAF F. NELSON Burial rites for Olaf F. Nelson of Spicer, formerly of Atwater were held at the Atwater Funeral Home July 21, 1976 in Atwater, Minnesota, with the Rev Rollen Halvorson officiating. Olaf was a member of the Arndahl Lutheran Church of rural Atwater. Special music was provided by Mrs. Marcus Hovey with Mrs. Robert Haller organist. Internment was at the Union Cemetery, rural Atwater. Pallbearers were Ray Carley, Leland Nelson, Paul Nelson, Levern Larson, Walter Swenson, and Roger Christenson. Olaf was born in rural Atwater, Minnesota April 26, 1916. He married Frances Dougherty of Litchfield, Minnesota. He farmed south of Atwater until he retired in 1969, when he moved to Spicer, Minnesota. At the time of his death, he was employed part-time in the furniture department of Goldines in Willmar. He was also still very active in his life long hobby of wood carving. He preceded in death by his parents, Oluas and Christina Nelson, two brother: Raymond and Milo and His wife, Frances who passed away May of 1968. Surviving him are seven sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Dora) Hegre, Mrs. Effie LaSalle, Mrs. Lillian Hogberg, Mrs. Melvin (Milly) Berg, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) White, Mrs. William (Ollie) Nelson, Mrs. Ward (Carol) Sonestby, three daughters Mrs. Donald (Connie) Hoffman of Chaska, Minnesota, Mrs. Paul (Jane) Anderson of Spicer, and Mrs. Alice Nelson of Minneapolis, and two grand-daughters. Olaf died July 19, 1976 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Wilmar following a short illness. CARD OF THANKS While our hearts are filled with sorrow, we cannot forget the many kind acts bestowed upon us by our many friends, relatives and neighbors during the illness and death of our beloved father and grandfather, Olaf Nelson. In particular, we do thank Rev. Halvorson, Father Garvey, the pallbearers, the soloist and organist, the Arndahl Ladies Aid for serving the lunch following the service, the donors of the beautiful flowers that were sent both to the hospital and funeral home. This kindness and thoughtfulness will always be remembered by his family. Dougherty of Litchfield, became the bride of Olaf Nelson, son of O. J. Nelson from southeast of Atwater, at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Litchfield, Wednesday, May 1 at 2 p.m. The bride wore a navy blue dress with white accessories and corsage. Miss Olive Nelson, the groom's sister, wore a light blue dress and corsage. Tom Daugherty, brother of the bride attended as best man. The groom's mother, brother Milo and sister Carol, and Mrs. Andrew Hegre of Atwater were in attendance at the wedding. A reception was held at the home of the bride after which Mr. and Mrs. Nelson left on a wedding trip to northern Minnesota.They are now at home on the groom's farm near Atwater. OLAF NELSON Mrs. Olaf Nelson was honored at a parcel shower Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Daugherty in Litchfield. She received many beautiful gifts.The hostesses were aunts of Mrs. Nelson. Mrs. O. J. Nelson from southeast of town, Mrs. Andrew Hegre of Atwater, Mrs. Herbert Hogberg of St. Paul, Mrs. Robert White and Mrs. Olive Nelson of Minneapolis were among those present. Mrs. Olaf Nelson was honored at a shower Wednesday evening of last week at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hatrick in Litchfield. The gifts were many and beautiful.
