I am currently compiling a family history for my children and have genealogical information for materanal and paternal ancestors for my wife and myself.I originally planned to trace each family back to their ports of entry into the United States, but to my amazement I have been able to go beyond that original goal and and locate some of their roots in their respective European villages.I have discovered ancestors who lived through, fought in, and survived the War Between the States, The French Revolution, The American Revolution, Civil uprisings in Austria-Hungary, and the Thirty Years War. My children can count among their ancestors a sea captainfrom Holland who brought settlers to New Amsterdam in the mid 1600's;
an arms supplier to the colonial troops from Bucks County, Pennsylvania during the American Revolution; a soldier wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg; an officer from the Austro-Hungrian army who had to flee after engaging in a duel, a tightrope walker from the circus; and others who wanted political, religious and economic freedom.
My children's paternal ancestors include the following families:
BROUHA, DRASS, DRESS, DATRES, GILL, GULL, HEISLER, HEINZ, HEINTZ, HUMMEL, JUNG, KIBLER, KUBLER, LOHR, MULLER, SCHMIDT, VETTER, VOGEL and WALTZ.
