Ellis and Smith families are believed to have immigrated from Great Britain to Canada and then to the United States of America. The Titus branch of the family immigrated directly from Great Britton to Massachusetts in the United States, although several Titus ancestors did migrate from Canada into New Hampshire with the Ellis ancestors. The Ellis, Titus and Smith families initially settled in New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts, USA.We are looking for the linkage of these families to Great Britain and of course, to continue filling in the names and histories of missing members of these families. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any additional information or leads. John Ellis (our oldest know Ellis ancestor)was born in Great Britain, Wales or Scotland (?), and in the early 1800's emigrated to the Bury and Sherbrooke and Barford areas in Canada with his son Joseph Humphrey Ellis.Joseph Ellis allegedly married an Abenaki Indian, Marie Sylvester, who lived in Canada. Later the Ellis and Titus families moved to Colbrook (and eventually to Thornton Gore), New Hampshire, USA. John Smythe was born in either England or Wales in 1795 and emigrated to Canada and then to the USA where he settled in East Concord, Vermont and changed the spelling of his surname to 'Smith'.Subsequent family members moved to New Hampshire. John Titus was born in the mid 1800's and either immigrated to the United States from Great Britton, or from Massachusetts, settling in Colebrook, New Hampshire. He was married to Mary Alls (Welch/Scottish spelling of Ellis?) Also included, are extensive related branches of the Sylvester, Flynn, Fairbankes, Hall and Metcalf families dating to the early 1500's, from Ireland, Scotland and England.
