Family Tree of the Rabe Westphalen families of IowaUpdated February 6, 2005
|I have been researching my family tree for about one year now.|
Specifically the Westphalen and Rabe side of the family.
The Westphalens hailed from the town of Drelsdorf, Schleswig Holstein Germany (LandSchaft Bredtstedt). They emigrated in 1881 on the SS Frisia, first traveling through Le Havre, France and then to New York. They eventually settled in Crawford County, Iowa.
The Rabes came from Anklam, Prussia.Gustav came over in 1869, went from New York, to Chicago, and eventually came to Crawford County, Iowa, where he raised one of the largest families in Iowa, having 19 children!
From both of these families comes the SCHRIEVER, BLANK, FISCHER, HANSEN, and THOMSEN families.
More family names that have recently come up are Jurgens and Andresen. They hail from the county of Husum, in Schleswig-Holstein.
