|This is a wonderful time to be alive! With so many magical things happening and available to us.So let's take a look farther back into our past, and there we will find mutual relations that we seek and probably never thought we had. I have been searching our 'tree' for 35+ years, filling in the blanks left in bits and pieces along the way. My father, William Arch Fields was from Roane County, WV and before he died in 1970, he and his surviving family told me what they could about the Fields in the Virginia's as far back as they knew, and what they remembered from the Family Bible that was destroyed in a fire in 1923 or 1924. |
Whenever I can afford it, I take a trip to Washington, D.C. to the National Archives and the Library of Congress Genealogical Reading Room so I can verify everything I have from more than one source. Even if it is reliable, or from the Church of Latter Day Saints Library.
As far back as I have found, the name 'Fields' originally came from 'de la Feld' meaning, "of the Field" (best translation). Some decendants added the "s" others added "ing" still other endings ensued.
Hubertus de la Feld fought with William the Conqueror in 1066 AD. and as one of his generals, was given a generous holdings for his aid and support after the conquest of England. Through the years and the many branches of the family, change to the name, and colonization of America, it is difficult to know which is cousin by whom, etc.. But I still search, and try not to leave any stone unturned. I am looking for any of these names:
Fields, Board, Ferrell, Moore, Casto, Kiser, Rhodes, Tolley, McCroskey, Harmon, Patsy, Jackson, Shour, Litton, Peters, Parsons
If you have any connection to these names from the Russell County VA; or Roane County, WV areas please contact me asap. I would like to exchange information with you.
