|The Clark family originated in Scotland, then they got a land grant in Ireland.In 1630 they immigrated to Hartford, Conn. Colony.The original Clark family had 10 sons.While some family members stayed in Conn., others went to Pennsylvania andVirginia.Our branch, James Clark, born 1725, Ulster Ireland, came to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.He settled in or near old Hannastown, in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, later Armstrong county.He married Nellie Armstrong and they had six children that we know of, viz.:James, b. 1750, who married Jean McCullough/McCulloch; John, b. 1751, who married Elizabeth Kenby; Nathaniel, b. 1752; William, b. 1755; Violet, b. 1757, who married Thomas Scott; and "Polly" (Mary), b. 1760, who married Hugh Reed.|
George Rogers Clark is connected to the family, as "Ed Clark's Grandfather's Grandfather," according to family writings, but I have yet to make the connection.George's brother William was the "Clark" of Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806).
Of the Hay(s) family, Robert Hay(s) was born 1818 in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, died November 1894, in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania; married Matilda Wolfe before 1861.She was born 1822 in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania and died 06 April 1900 in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania. Robert and Matilda had at least two children, viz.: Matilda, born 1861, died 1911, who married Daniel W. Barnhart; and George McClellan "McClellan" Hays, born 04 November 1862 in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania and died 08 June 1944 in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania.He married Mary A. Stewart about 1890 and they had the following children:Margaret B., who died an infant; Earl Harrison, who married Catherine O'Donnell (Kathy's maternal grandparents); Edna Minerva, who married William O'Brien; Joseph Ellsworth, who married Mabel A. Rodgers; and John Gabriel, who married Gretta Groves.
Research for the Finch family has been traced to Charles Finch and Sarah Jacobus.They had at least two children, viz.:Carrie Amillia and Joseph Carpenter.Joseph married Charlotte Mary "Mary" Hayner about 1912 in Michigan.Their son, Fredric L. Finch, born 27 June 1913 in Laingsburg, Michigan, died 19 August 1954 in Oxford, Michigan.He married Allie E. Daniels, daughter of William Daniel(s) and Jennie Dennison, in Florida, and they had the following children:William F., Joseph F., James E., Bonnie May (deceased), and Robert D..Allie then married Fredric's cousin, William Henry Harrison and had the following children:Elmer (deceased), Janice M. and David E.All of the family, except William, lives in Michigan.
Allie E. Daniels was born in DeSoto county, Florida, her father, William Daniel(s), son of Charles Benjamin Daniel(s) and Sarah Clementine Williams, dying when she was about six years old and her mother, Jennie Dennison, daughter of Sam Dennison and Hannah Woods, died when she was about 13.Jennie was born in Tenn. and William was born in Florida.Both died in Florida, between 1928 and 1935.Have been unable to find birth or death records for either parent.The children were taken in by Mr. William and Mrs. Martha (Woods) Lowe.It has not been proven, but according to the family, the Lowe's adopted the youngest child, Grace.They are listed as the parents on her death certificate.The Daniel(s) family has been traced by other descendants to the Carolina's, before they seperated into North and South.
