|Why Trace Family History?|
This will be written for the generations to come,
That a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.
My interestin Family History first beganin 1984. My mother being very ill with cancer and not having long to live shared with me a little book, written in 1920 by Winnifred Joy Mannering Bradford to her daughter, Florence. In it she shared her hope that she would love God and live for Him all of her days. Thissame faith my grandmother shared with me when I was a young child and I am forever grateful to God in His Grace giving me such a Faithin Him , He using the testimony of thisGrace through earlier generations to influence the latter generation. It is said that history is "HIS STORY" and so it is. I glory in seeing His Sovereign Hand working its rich Tapestry of Grace through generationafter generation. These generations were living souls whom God gave life to ,directed theirexistancefrom conception through death lavishing His Grace upon them . It says in John 3:16 that God so loved them that He gave His only begotten Son, and whoseover believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. These people are more than a name , place and date. They had family that they loved, lived life with, prayed , .laughed , criedwithand grieved for. They hadhappiness ,fears, disease , death oftheir children more than we know, endured wars and uncertainty, moving across countryto have theopportunitytolivelife andenjoy God in freedom, some left parents and siblings across the Atlantic Ocean tohave this great opportunity. Many were farmers, some were coal miners, factory workers, shipbuilders, blacksmiths, carpenters, nurses, physicians, lawyers, andpreachers.Manywere English Protestants, others Germanand Irish Catholics, They were Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians. They emigratedfrom England, Wales, Ireland, Germany, Holland, and France,They lived inNew York, New Jersey,Maryland, Ohio,North Carolina,Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois. All were decendants of Adam and dead in their sins, some were redeemed souls. Each life affected another's life either by sin or grace. If they knew God's Grace through Jesus Christand lived for His glory, God's Truth was passed on to the next generation. So each generation affecting the nexteither for evil or for good.I think this research has deepened my understanding that in a very short time such as3 or 4 generations, earlier generations are lost to the present ones.We truly are but "dustand our days arelike a lengthened shadow ,our days are like grass: as a flower of the field , so he flourishes, when the wind has passed over it, it is no moreand hisplace knows himno more. "If believers, the only thing that we leave behind is a legacy of God's faithful work of Grace to our offspring and ifdoubly blessedto ourchildren's children andto childrens', children's children!"This I say 'O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days, Yet Your years are thoughout all generations, of old you founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. All of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing you will change them and they are changed, but You are the same andyour years will not come to an end.The children of your servants will continue, and their decendants will be established before You. To the Praise of the glory of HIS GRACE! Carol
