John Blakely (son of John Blakeley) was born 1718 in Antrim, Ireland, and died 1798 in Clinton, South Carolina, Laurens County?.He married Rachel Orr on 1742 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Notes for John Blakely: I found the name William in one family tree but I haven't any other documents to back it up. Notes for John Blakely quoted as it was written including spelling, etc. This was probably written by William, son of Robert. The bible was in the possession of William, son of John and Rachel.. (from FamilyTreeMaker.com, Dillon family tree. "My Grandfather Blakely, John was a native of Ireland, hecame to Pennsylvania, in the 14th year of his age a stayed there for some time then removed to North Carolina after his marriage with a Rachel Orr of Welsh extract where he lived there until 1765, his family then being all grown to maturity and two of them married then he removed to South Carolina taking with him his family consisting of wife, six sons and one daughter where himself and four of his sons spent the remainder of their lives also the daughter and left a numerous offspring. My father Robert Blakely having in North Carolina married a wife by the name of Martha Dillon they lived there until 1779 then removed to NW territory then afterwards to East Tennessee Washington County where he lived out his days.My Grandfather Daniel Dillon came of Irish parents was sea born on their passage to America they settled in Virginia and stayed until 1764 when he my grandfather removed to North Carolina with his mother Dillon's maiden name was Write(Wright) she was of Swiss origin.I was lived until I removed to Indiana in the year 1822 when I removed to Indiana and located in Rush County where I stayed until 1835 I removed to Marshal County where I am yet 1854. I found the name William John in one source only, so I am not at all sure about it but I will include it until it proves otherwise false.Since he named one son William, I am inclined to believe that it is a good possibility that it is accurate. "At the Laurens County Public Livrary, Laurens, SC, I found: "Some of the Branches of the Blakely Family in Laurens County, SC.' compiled by George McCrary in 1910.I copied the following information: "John Blakely settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania from which place he moved to Laurens County (Ninety-Six District), SC.The maiden name of his wife was Rachael Orr...John and Rachael lived to be over eighty years of age. Only one of their nine children (Jonathan) did not live to be four score years.Their coming to this state ante-dates the Revolutionary War.They were Scotch-Irish.'" "From the best information, from John and Rachael Blakely's family Bible, and from others, I found the following recorded:John Blakely (b.c. 1718, d 1798) m 1742 Rachael Orr (b.c. 1725, d. 1814) From Equity Court Record, Laurens, SC) "Record continued:Robert b. 1743 m. "National DAR application papers (numbers above( state: 'John Blakely was a private in the S.C. Militia and drew full pay for services in the Revolutionary War. Vol 23 Salley's Stub--Entries R.T. p. 167.'" Note:My best guess is that it is Jonathan, not Robert who married Martha Crawford.Robert definitely married Martha Dillion. It is possible that he married Martha Crawford first, but I haven't a clue how to find that out.I have placed the name tentatively with Jonathan since the list does give his wife's name as Martha???.
