Notes for James Seaton:
Born in Scotland, year not known. 1760 James Seaton was living in Stafford Co.
Virginia which was the birthplace of his son Benjamin, in 1768. In 1769 he was listed as owning 200
acres in Greene Co. on the north side of the French Broad River. This list was developed at the
request of President George Washington, through his Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, to
determine how many settlers were in the western lands given back to the United States by the
State of North Carolina in 1789. Possibly James was a Revolutionary soldier using scrip issued in
payment for his services with which to buy his land.
There is a will for James Seaton who died in Limestone County Ala. in 1823. On the bottom it was signed by Moses so he apparently was James son.
