Excerpts from John Newton Harman's book:
***Daniel Harman Sr. came with his father to the Vally of Virginia about 1736 and then to the New River in the Present Giles County, VA in 1744 or 1745, when he was about 16years of age.
***Daniel and his brothers, Adam and Henry Sr., lived in Rowan County, VA.
***In 1757, Daniel Harman was standing within a foot of his brother Valentine, when Valentine was killed by the Indians,on Sinking Creek in the present Giles County, VA.
***Daniel married Anna Bughsen in Rowan County, North Carolina on April 21, 1764.It appears that he took up his residence there until about the year 1773, when he moved to the head of Clinch River, in the present Tazewell County, VA.He served as a juror in Rowan County, North Carolina, in 1764, and took part in the location of a road by his house, in that county in 1767.His daughter, Philipina , was baptized by the minister of the Moravian Church in Powan County, in May 1765.
*** After taking up his residence in Tazewell County, about the year of 1773, Daniel was with Peter Harman August 11, 1777,about fifty miles down Sandy River were fired upon by aboutforty Indians; but the Harmans made their escape and warned the inhabitants."(Letter of Arthur Campbell to Col. Wm. Fleming, page 38, "Thwaites and Kellog's FRONTIER DEFENSE OF THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY."
***The records in the clerk's office of Tazewell county show that Daniel Harman Sr. was a man of considerable wealth in land and slaves and property.He was also prominent in civic affairs of the county.
In his will probated January 25, 1820, in Will Book No. 1,p. 116, Daniel Harman divides his property as follows:To his sons Mathias,William, Daniel, Henry, Adam, and Buse: and to his daughters, Pheby Davidson, Christina Harman, Rebecca Wright, Nancy Milam, Levicy Harman and to his son-in-law Adam Harman
