My research has primarily been on my mother's Nova Scotia side of the family. Although I have a lot of information, I continue to search for more. The Nau/Nowe and Conrad families came to NS from Germany in 1752.
I first became interested in my family history while listening to my great-Aunt Elvira (Nowe) Bowling recall stories from her childhood.
One day while my gr Aunt was reminiscing,I found myself wondering who these people were that she was talking about. As time went on, I became more curious, I wanted to know what my
connection was to the people I kept hearing about.
On one of my visits with my Aunt, I decided to ask her about our family. I listened intently as she spoke about her childhood growing up in Nova Scotia.How she, like my grandmother, came to the United States, married and raised a family. I was awed as I listened to stories about her brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
I soon realized that my Aunt was a wealth of information.At that point I decided to keep a record of my conversations with her.With this information, began a longjourney that would lead me to discover what a unique and diverse family heritage I have.
I started researching my family in early 1980. The project was put to one side and through the years I would occasionally update the information.
In early 1997, I realized that my great-Aunt would be celebrating her one hundredth birthday.I thought that this was the perfect time to put together (a book) all the information I had gathered.I had forgotten how awed I was by all the stories my aunt had told me.I soon found myself immersed within the pages of this book, like a novel one finds hard to put down.
Researching your family history is like a great novel, each piece of information leads you in another direction. The story never ends, keepingyour interest peaked, always looking for more.
On the 17 of October 1997, family members gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of my great-Aunt. I am proud to have been a part of the celebration to honor my Aunt and to shared with our family this wealth of information. With the passing of my Aunt I now find myself wanting to continue and share this information will other family members.
This would not have been possible without the help of the many people and organizations that continue to provide information to those of us researching our family.
This is our legacy for future generation, the history of our family. Always remember that we are a part of the PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE!
Names in my research: Diehl,Diel,Greek,Levante,Lohnes, Tanner,Ward,Wolf,Wolfe,Woodward;
I will be posting a list of families names in the very near future.
Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information I have with others.
