I thought it was time that I share some of our findings on the Hortons and Gobles. My wife, Greta, is/was a Horton, and she has been collecting data for some time now.We will both use this site to publish our data. Please email use with any additions or changes you may have.
We are researching the Hortons of Ripley and Jefferson County, Indiana.
I am discovering that the John Gobles came to Indiana from North Carolina. They were large land owners in Salt Creek Township near Houston, Indiana and one of Jackson County's pioneering familys. They moved to Jackson County in the late 1820's, and are still there today. The first to arrive was John Goble Jr., I am his 5th great grandson.George "Adam" (brother of John Jr.) brought his family in November of 1830. I believe that John Sr. may have traveled here with Adam or sometime afterward, as he is also buried in Jackson County.I have discovered that both Louis J. and George Walker Goble(brothers) were Civil War Soldiers. I am in the process of getting their service records from the national archives in Washington DC.
I am also collecting info on the following Goble related surnames:Maschino,Hohenstreiter, Horning, Hunter, Gray and Rayman.
As I get more details this info may grow or change a little, so bear with me, please. Fell free to email me with any corrections or comments you might have.
