I am researching my family, WIMBERLY/WIMBERLEY - HOLT and my husband's family GONDERMAN - BARNES.
My father, Henry Haywood Wimberly, was very proud of his grandfather, William Lewis Wimberly, who served in the Confederate Army.William died in 1923.I am trying to find out where he joined and served during the Civil War.Dad thought he joined up in Tennesse, but he was living in and returned to, Vaiden,Carroll Co., Mississippi.
William Lewis Wimberly also had a brother, (name unknown) that we don't know what happened to.He had a son that William took in and raised along with his own eleven children.Dad remembered him as "Uncle Patro".
My father-in-law's, Clyde William Gonderman, grandfather, James Levi Gonderman is another mistery. He served with the Union Army during the Civil War and is buried in Henryetta, Oklahoma, under the name of Gunderman. The Army provided the headstone and we are wondering if it was a typo or ??
My grandfather, James Newton Holt, was old enough to join the Union army during the Civil War, but his older brothers, Brack, Isom, and David, bade him stay home and take care of the parents and younger siblings while they went to fight.I have been unable to find any information on any of them.James Newton Holt had a wife and children, one named Mary Ann, before he married my grandmother, Sarah Jehmima Phillips. My mother remembered that there were more children, but Mary Ann Holt was the only one she saw much of.
All I know about my mother-in-law's, Grace Lillian Barnes, father, Lewis Barnes, is that he was born in Indian Territory, Oklahoma and had to use witnesses to confirm his age for Social Security. He had one sister and they were orphaned at an early age.
I would be more than happy to share what information I have with anyone that can use.If you have any information I can use I would sure appreciate it.
