66.BERRY E.6 RAULERSON (ELIAS5, NIMROD4, JOHN3, BENJAMIN2, JOHN1)194 was born August 08, 1847 in Ware County, Georgia, and died April 12, 1912 in Lake City, Florida. He married MARY ELMIRA WALDSTROM194 1866 in Hamilton County, Florida. Notes for BERRY E. RAULERSON: On March 7, 1862, Berry enlisted in Company "E" 9th Florida Infantry at Lake City, Florida. He later transferred to Company "H" of the same Regiment in which he served for the duration of the Civil War. Due to illness he was home on furlough the sixty days prior to surrender of his command at Appomattox Court House. Following his service in the Civil War, Berry resided in Hamilton County, Florida for many years, where his occupation was farming. During that time he served as Chairman of the Board of the County Commissioners for a period of four years. Berry also served as a member of the Republican State Executive Committee for thirty years. On December 8, 1890, Berry sold on hundred twenty acres in Hamilton County to Anna S. Monroe. On April 3, 1893, he sold seventeen acres in Hamilton County, in addition to two lots in the town of Genoa, to his brother, William M. Raulerson. Later, moving to Columbia County, Florida, he was appointed to Postmaster of Lake City Post Office on June 20, 1898, and again on October 19, 1906. He was succeeded by his son David, who was appointed on April 5, 1912. The Post Office was established at Alligator, now Lake City, on May 22, 1830. On June 29, 1907 in Columbia County, Florida, Berry Raulerson made a Confederate Pension Application. His pension was approved October 30, 1907, with pay from July 5, 1907 at the rate of $100.00 per year. Berry died April 12th or 13th, 1912 and was buried in Lake City Cemetery. Berry's widow, Mary E. Raulerson, filed for a Confederate widow's pension on April 25, 1912. This application was approved for $120.00 per year and was granted on June 15, 1912. Her date of death and place of interment are unknown. Note: In the June 1986 issue of HGSM, Berry is not listed as a child of Elias Raulerson. In the 1860 census of Charlton County, Georgia, there is a Berry Beasley, age 16, listed in the household of Elias Raulerson. It is possible that this Berry was a child of Melvina William Beasley Raulerson by her first husband. Berry Raulerson did sign an affidavit on June 2, 1904 stating he was the son of Elias and Melvina Raulerson, and quoted a Bible record that stated "Elias Raulerson was married February 10, 1848", and stated that this was his (Elias's) second marriage and was to Melvina.
