|I am researching Hackenbergs who originated in the Silesia area of Europe. The earliest ancestor traced so far is Ignaz Hackenberg (1813-1883).The urban center for the area which the Hackenbergs came from is Freiwaldau which is the county seat of the area.Freiwaldau is in northern Czech Republic and it's current Czech name is Yesenik. The Hackenbergs came from various towns in a radius of Freidau which includes towns both in the Czech Republic and southern Poland.|
The American Hackenbergs originating from Ignaz seem to have settled in Wheeling, West Virginia, and in North Dakota. Most of them immigrated to the US in the late 1880's.There are other Hackenbergs who are living in Germany and in countries as far away as Australia who also come from Silesia. The connection of these Hackenbergs to Ignaz has not yet been proven but it is assumed due to the relatively small area of origin in Silesia.
The link to various Hackenberg groups based in Silesia can be found at my web page at http://www.cyberenet.net/~rhackenb/genealogy/genealogy.html.
There are a number of Hackenbergs in the US, primarily in the state of Pennsylvania, who seem to originate from Prince Peter Hackenberg in the town of Hackenburg, Germany.A good source information of these Hackenberg is Kathy Schaefer firstname.lastname@example.org.There is no known link between these Hackenbergs and the ones from Silesia although such a link will sometime be proven.
