|I am researching Hackney's from Southern New Jersey. I am able to get back to Joseph Hackney. He was born about 1808, and died April 21, 1899. Wife was Mary Hackett and second wife was Meriam Scull.Joseph and his decendents have all lived in this area. Mostly in Smiths Landing, also called Bakersville, Plesantville, and Northfield, New Jersey. As time went on, I guess names changed of the area, and lines of cities or twonships change. This was then all Glouscester County until I think 1837 when they decided that the county was to large and broke off a chunk and called it Atlantic County.|
I think Josephs father may have been called Alsey Hackney. This may have been a given name or maybe a nick name. The area bouding these small localities was also known as Egg harbor Township.
If you have any information that can help get documentation on Joseph's father I sure would like to hear from you.
This family is crossed with Allan Hackney in Conneticutm who is originally from this area. He and I have communicated and are we beleive 4th cousins. His family is documented on the Family Archive Companion Set that came with version 4. Disk WFT Volume Five. Allans family Tree Number is 1427. I dont know if this same number will cover my side of the family but it might help you located some of us.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help or has questions.
I am more then willing to share information.
Good Hunting !!
