Melinda Uncles and brothers fought in the Civil War. When she Was a you girl she hid buckets of food under her skirt and sat on a bridge. Her family members, who were hiding, reached up under the bridge and got the food. Hew father owned some of downtown St. Joseph. He had beento California to the gold fields and brought home nuggets, which he hid. Some bushwhackers came and took all the horses including Melinda's saddle horse. Her father was made to go with them, hands tied behind him. He was never seen again. (info from George Goldfield)
