Fairfax Monthly Meeting
6th mo 1745: Samuel Harriss and Jacob Janney appointed overseers of Fairfax Preparatory meeting.
5th mo 1750: Samuel Harris Senr. has given way to a light and airy disposition of mind which led him to dance after musick in a public company which is very disagreeable to the discipline of Friends. Ordered to appear next meeting and make satisfaction.
4th mo 1758: Samuel Harriss Senr. guilty of drinking strong liquor to excess.
1st mo 1781: Samuel Harris condemned his behaviour in taking the Test.
11th mo 1765: Ann Harris (now Dawson) daughter of Samuel Harris, married out of unity.
8th mo 1766: Hannah Harris (now Howell), daughter of Samuel Harris, married a man not of our society.

Samuel Harris, grantee, "of Fairfax" purchased land in Northern Neck, Prince William County, Virginia. Dated 21 April 1742. Description: 640 ac. beginning at the corner of Joseph Dixon, on North Fork of Beaverdam Branch of Goose Creek, surveyed by Amos Janney. (Northern Neck Land Grants, Book E, 1736-1742, p. 454 --reel 291)
(NOTE Loudoun Co. was formed out of Fairfax in 1757, and Fairfax, from Prince William Co. in 1742.)

Samuel Harris, Sr. died before March 1764. He left a will, dated 4 January 1757, probated 14 March 1764. (Loudoun Co., VA will book A, page 103)

Samuel Harris had been an early member of Hopewell MM, VA. In 1744 when Fairfax MM was created, dividing the Hopewell and Fairfax boundaries along the Blue Ridge, the Friends in that locale west of the Blue Ridge of which were largely members of Fairfax and Monoquesy Preparatory Meetings. Samuel Harris was named a temporary overseer (along with Jacob Janney) of the Fairfax Men's Meeting, 26th, 4th month (June) 1745.
(Records of Hopewell MM, and Fairfax MM, VA, prior to 1734, were kept by Nottingham MM, (Cecil Co., MD) and New Garden MM, (Chester CO., PA). A fire in 1759 destroyed early marriage books and all but one birth and death book for Hopewell MM. Certificates of transfer to northern VA in the early to mid 1700s were commonly presented to Nottingham MM or New Garden MM.)
