I am one of many Nancy Hargises on the family tree, past and present. My branch of the HARGIS family descends from ISAAC HARGIS b. 1801 in Hardin CO., KY, and ELIZABETH REED b. 1808 in Christian Co., KY. who married and raised their family in Howard Co., MO.The family eventually situated in Doniphan Co., KS.My father, GERALD DRACHE HARGISS (1897 - 1957) served in the US Navy in WWI and WWII. Other names on my dad's side are DRACH, HORN, MARKEL, RICKETT, BOSWELL, BOZORTH, DANNER, DOPSON, DRAPER, FONTAINE, LEA/LEE, LOOKERMAN, TROSTEL, and WHITESIDES. The CRUIKSHANKS and the ANTHONYS, on my mother's side, have lived here in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties for 150 years, which makes me a fourth generation Californian. In 1887, WILLIAM D. CRUIKSHANK (1856 - 1937) discovered the Last Chance Mine, the richest gold mine in Monterey County, CA.The YATES family was a very prominent family in New York politics since at least 100 years before the Revolutionary War, and ROBERT YATES helped to write the Declaration of Indepedence. Other maternal direct ancestors are RAUST, JENSEN, NEIMANN, NORTON, STEVENS, DUNN, DUGAY, FINCH, THOMPSON, VAN ALSTYNE, VAN BROMMEL, VANDENBURG, VAN INVERSEN, VIELE, and WINNE. I am always looking for new information on any of the above-referenced families, and am always happy to share what I have with others. I want to thank the many people who have been instrumental in my research, especially BOBBIE TURNEY, LINDA LUNSFORD, PAT HEDIGAR, LAVINIA HARGISS, ANITA MASON, BARRY CRUIKSHANK, and so many, many others.I could not do it without you!
