I'm Linda Marie Mason Coleman Edwards - and one of your relatives.I
currently live in Detroit, but was raised in Duluth.
I am downloading some of your file to send to my father, Howard Mason.
My dad's mother Vera Olive Doble Mason passed away at 104 notlong ago -
her father was Marshall Doble/mother was Emma Fitzgerald Norton Doble and
grandparents thus John Freeman and Susan Dakin Doble. Edith was my Grandma's
sister.
Dad lived in Duluth until 1984 - moved to California to live near my
twin sister and he and my mom are both 85. We used to go to Brainard in the
summer - I remember - actually have a film of his Aunt Gertie in her garden.
I remember spending time with Derwin and his family.

I have a photo of my Grandma Vera, "Aunt Edith" as my father calls her
and the youngest brother Lloyd Marshall Doble taken when my Grandma was
about 6.It says "Edith Doble Somerville Norton"-Derwin's mother) so I
would think this is your Grandmother. I remember her coming to Duluth.She
looked alot like my grandmother and I was quite taken by that!I will try
to send it to you tomorrow.

VERA OLIVE MASON CENTENTARIAN
Vera Olive Mason;, 104, a resident from 1912-1965 died Friday, February
27, 1998 in Portland, Oregon.an avid gardener, she was a longtime member
of the Smithville group of the Duluth Garden Flower Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and a son, Donald.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Greenfield of Portland, Oregon; a
son, Howard of Santa Cruz, Californai, six grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Interment: in Park Hill Cemetery, Duluth, Minnesota.
My grandma and her brother Lloyd were sent to live with a family on a farm
for a time after her mother, Emma died.Grandma said that Emma (have
pictures of her,too) was trying to pick up Lloyd and the horsegot
startled.She was thrown into the side of a barn and died within a month or
two thereafter - I will check with my Dad but I think he told me she was in
the early stages of pregnancy at the time.
Grandma Vera and Lloyd were sent to live with a family on a farm for a while
after Emma died.They lived again with their father, Marshall Doble - after
he remarried.
She married my Grandpa Jim when she was 18 and working at a boarding house
up on the range run by her father, Marshall and his wife. My father was the
oldest child, born Sept. 13, 1913. My Uncle Don was about four years younger
than Dad and Janet was born about 1922.Grandpa Jim was from Denmark (boy
am I having a time finding information about him!) and changed his name from
Jens Kristian Madsen to James Christian Mason when he immigrated to
Minnesota. Jim was a meat-cutter by trade.The family lived in Morgan Park
until shortly after my Dad graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1931 -
and then lost the butcher shop and moved into the country - build what my
Dad calls a "shack".My Dad remembers his grandfathers.
Grandpa died when I was in the tenth grade - will get facts straight -
abt. 1963.
Howard married Inez Ruth Anderson one week before Pearl Harbor.They
were in the same class at Morgan Park High but didn't start courting until
the late 1930's.My Dad was born blind in one eye and they wouldn't let him
enlist - but eventually he joined the Army; but only after Susan Kay Mason
(Mikuska) was born on April 1, 1943. I am a twin - Leslie and I were born on
January 7, 1948.She lives in Santa Cruz/near my folks. Here I am in
Detroit.I have the only grandchildren from the Howard line - Shannon Marie
Coleman (age 24 - last year of seminary in Cambridge, Mass.) - Maren Laura
Coleman (age 20 - refused to go to college and loves being a waitress and
lives in Grosse Pointe Park, MI - and John Mason Coleman - a ninth
grader/age 15.
Both of my parent are alive and mentally as good as ever!!!!What a

excited about talking about the family and really knows so much!!!!!!!!!It
