Family history " went to Texas ". Based upon children birt h dates and place of birth from census records, it looks li ke he was in Texas about 1860.
The Blackburn Chapel Cemetery is located 4 miles west of Te cumseh, Ok onState Highway #9; 5 miles north on NS-336 (Bet hel Road); .4 mile east onEW-116 (Lake Road). Or, 4.6 mile s west of the Kickapoo-BenedictStreetintersection in Shaw nee, Ok. (Benedict St. becomes EW-114, the Lake Road).
(S1/2 of NW1/2 of Sec 20-T 10N-R3E).In 1899, community resi dents established a church 1/2 mile west and one mile nort h of the present cemetery,called Valley Grove. in 1900 th e church was moved to its present site adjacent the cemeter y and named "Blackburn Chapel"for the man who gave the lan d for the church and cemetery, Mr. Blackburn and12 charte r members built the church with all labor and material prov ided by residents. The cemetery is located south of the lar ge native rock church, is fenced and well maintained. Grave sites are sold in blocks and only plots in the far southwes t corner of the area are sold by single grave space. A pat h divides the family plots every 32 feet. the east drivewa y is lined by poplar trees and curves west though the cemet ery. The first known occurred prior to1899 when a Mexican c hild on a wagon train south of the present cemetery died an d was buried on the side of the hill. The freight trail fro m SacredHeart to Oklahoma City angled through the area abou t 500 yards south of the present cemetery. Pottawatomie Cou nty Deed Bk. 132 p. 76 reflects thatRH Farthing and Luell a Farthing sold for $75 to ST Rankin, EA Boettler and IB Fe rris, Trustees of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church on July 1 2, 1930 a parcel in the NE corner of the NW 1/4 of Sec 20- T 10N-R3E, lying immediatelywest of and adjacent to propert y of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, theS1/2 of same fo r a pastor's home or other purposes...
