ANCESTRY OF ANNA [MEYER] BRUBAKER
----------------------------------
Anna Meyer was the wife of John Brubaker (c1748-1825), the first Brethren Brubaker. They were married in 1774.Anna was the daughter of Jacob Meyer of Bethel Township, Lancaster County. Jacob Meyer died in Bethel sometime between May 13, 1800, when his Will was written, and March 5, 1801, when his Will was probated. In his Will, he named his daughter Anna as wife of John Brubaker.
John Brubaker was a tax-paying resident of Bethel during the 1770s and 1780s, moving to Franklin County, VA, in 1789, with Anna and his brother-in-law Christian Meyer. (In some Brubaker genealogies, Meyer is
spelled as Myers.)
[Carole: There are questions about Anna's mother -- such as Magdalena, Anna Burkholder -- and other women that seemt to be related to another Jacob Meyer who settled in North Carolina and then went to Virginia. For instance, this other Jacob Meyer opened a tavern.]According to Davis, Vol. II, p. 285, the wife of our Jacob Meyer, and mother of his children, was Magdalena (surname unknown). Both are described by Davis as "dunkers at Bethel." Davis speculates that our Jacob Meyer (b. c1713) may have been the son of Michael Mayer (b. c1676), but he puts a question mark in front of this possibility.
