|Here are some of the names I have begun to research:|
BOYCE*Rumored to have come from England because they were involved in a murder.I have no proof of that (yet!).Settled in the Shenandoah County, Virginia. Have them back to George Matthew, b. 1864.
FELLER* Have John Feller b. 1864.Settled in Shenandoh County, Virginia.
FINNERTYMy husband's g-grandmother, killed by her husband in 1897 in Baltimore, Maryland.Supposed to have come from Ireland around 1850's.
GOCHENOUR: I have a wonderful book about the history of this family.
I'm even in it!
Starts with Jacob, b. 1771.Also settled in the Shenandoah County, Virginia area.
HINES*Another branch of my husband's family, lived in Baltimore.Haven't done much here.
HERRON*My husband's line, would like to do more here. They settled in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.Only have them back to the early 1900's.Would love to trace them back to Ireland.
HOYT*This branch has a man that fascinates me, my g-g-granfather Ichabod Patterson Hoyt. He had another wife prior to my g-g-grandmother, in Philadelphia. Would love to find his 2 daughters there! He was born and raised in Painted Post, New York, became a physician, but ended up in southern Virginia during the Civil War and was a doctor in the Confederate Army.He has been hard for me to find info on, I only have his obits to go from.
MOESSER:Have them back to Hessia or Hessian, Germany. They settled in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
MONAHAN:This is the unfortunate man that killed his wife (see: Finnerty) and was hung in Baltimore, MD.He supposedly followed his wife here from Ireland against her parent's wishes. They married and lived a stormy life until their deaths in 1897.
SCHWARZ*Here is where I started. My father's family.I have them back to Mason, West Virginia (and met some nice distant relatives there!), and would love to trace them further back to Germany.I'm going there soon and would love to search while I'm there.
SCHWITZGEBEL:My g-g-grandmother, Catharina. Is supposed to be from Alsace-Lorraine, b. 1836.Would love to know more about her family.May have come here with siblings, but can't find them.
I have met some helpful Schwitzgebels on-line, Mike in Texas even found her passenger listing for me!
*indicates the ones I'm most interested in at the moment!
I would love to hear from anyone who thinks there may be a connection, I'll help you if I can!
