|I am researching the Adamson and Moodie families, both originally from Scotland in the early 1800s and the Pinner and Odell families from the East End of London in the mid 1800s. |
Benjamin Waters Adamson was born in 1811, Leith South, Edinburgh, Scotland and his son (also Benjamin Adamson b, 1852 London) married Agnes Moodie (b. 1853 London), the daughter of William Moodie, b. 1818, Midlothian , Scotland.
William also had a son - John Moodie, who married Agatha Adamson - a daughter of Benjamin Waters Adamson.
Benjamin and Agnes are my great-great grandparents.
In the 1881 UK census, William Moodie has his occupation as a Ship owner (Naval Officer) and in the 1871 UK census Benjamin Waters Adamson has his occupation as a Provision Merchant. I know the families traded pork/ham with Jamaica, and my great grandfather - Benjamin William Adamson (yes, another Benjamin) was actually born in Jamaica.
I know very little about the Pinners and Odells. I've been told the Odells may have originally cme from Ireland, but haven't been able to trace them there yet. Alfred Pinner was born in 1848 in Shoreditch, Middlesex and his son - Albert Pinner - married Emily Elizabeth Odell, the daughter of Albert Odell, b. 1851 Old Ford, Bow, Middlesex.
If you think you may have a connection to any of the people or families above, please don't hesitate to email me. I would love to hear from you.
