| || Notes for Macklin Southard:|
Having been born in Orange Co., NC, by 1813, Macklin was living in Guilford Co.,just to the west, where he married Nancy Wisdom.
He apparently still owned property in Orange Co.This is supported by an indenture made 22 Jan 1818 in Orange Co., wherein Macklin sold a 105-acre tract of land to Joseph Street, Sr. for $200.Whether this was land he owned outright from purchase, or was the result of an inheritance, it was in the area where his father, John, owned property, i.e. along the border with Guilford Co.Specifically, the indenture referred to the parcel "situate lying and being in the County of Orange . . . on a branch of the Haw River Beginning for the same at a black Jack at John Tickles corner thence North to and with Lockelmann's line one hundred & Sixty two poles to a black Jack thence East on Lockelmann's line to his Corner thence continued East in all Two hundred & eight poles to a Red Oak thence South fifty degrees [?] with Tickle's line Two hundred & Sixty Six poles on straight line to the beginning Containing One hundred & five Acres & forty poles -- together with all the woods, ways, water, wales, courses, mines, minerals, Hereditainment & appurtenances to the Land belonging or in any wise Appertaining & the mansion & revisions. . . ."The indenture was executed at the Orange Co., Open Court at its February 1819 Term, in the presence of John Charmichael and James Sutton.
Carl Southard in his Gazette & Record, reported that he moved from NC to White Co., TN and then to MO by 1843.
He was reported to have moved to TN about 1818.
