George Taylor was Com. Col. of Orange Co. Militia by Gov. Dinwiddie in French& Indian War. George Taylor was a member of Orange Co. Committee of Safety from 1748-1758. At the outbreak of the Revoulutionary war, was a delegate to Va. Convention 1775. This reference gives eligibility to DAR, also DAC, and DCW. Notes for Col. George Taylor
George Taylor was commissioned Colonel of the Orange County Militia 18 July 1755, and served in the French and Indian Wars.He was a member of the House of Burgesses 1748-9, 1752-8; member of the Committee ofSafety 1744-5; member of the Convention 1775; Vestryman of the Church of England, and Clerk of Orange County for twenty-three years.His son James succeeded him in the position.250
"This return is recorded in [George] Washington's own handwriting 30 April 1771: George Taylor was wounded, Lt. Jack Vanbraam Co.Returns made at Willis Creek 9 July 1754."253
George Taylor first called his home "Colina", changed it a few months later to "Middleburn" and later to "Midland".A later owner changed the name to "Ashland".It is now known as "Yattan" (Page 768, Vol. IV, Virginia Geneal. William and Mary Quarterly.)It was about two miles northeast of Orange County Courthouse between "Bloomsbury" and "Greenfield", early homes built by his father.These three homes were in sight of each other, and it was the custom when visitors came to either home, which occurred often, to hoist a flag as a signal to the other and an invitation for the rest of the family to join in the festivities.172
Col. George Taylor's will was written three years before his death and is a long and concise document written in his own handwriting and contains his singed seal with no witnesses necessary, singed 5 Sep 1789.It was probated by Francis and Benjamin Taylor [his sons] 26 Nov 1792.The will reflects Georg's large wealth in many pounds of current money, slaves and vast land estates.It is recorded in Orange County, Virginia, records
George Taylor, was the father of 12 sons, one of whom died before the Revolution
and one was only 13 years of age when the war ended.
The other ten all volunteered and served in the revolution as follows.

Bishop Meade says (II., 98) that George Taylor had fourteen sons of whom seven
seved in the Revolutionary War and thirteen held office under the Government at
the same time. M. Stanard says that Colonel George Taylor was Burgess for Orange
Co., 1748-1738; mem. Orange Co. Committe, 1774. and the Va. Conv. 1775
